Michigan State Bus Roadeo held in April in Lansing, MI.

The State Police facilities were used since they have a very large paved area they use for their driver training.

It was a very windy day. It rained on the two days before and snowed the day after. Choosing the correct day proved more lucky than good.

Robert Carlson of ModalChoice was engaged to deploy the Digital Roadeo Scoring system (DRS) for this roadeo. This system is composed of a Web-server system that receives score input from the judges on the course. ModalChoice employs Tablet Computers for the score submissions and a laptop to view the scores in real time. At the end of the Roadeo, when the last driver completes the last obstacle, the scores are already tabulated and ready to be downloaded in a spreadsheet format. Paper score sheet can be provided as backup if needed.

A big THANKYOU goes out to MDOT for providing the Photographer and the Aerial Drone Imagery. This was a unique opportunity to see what the entire course looks like.

The day was too windy to use orange barrels for the Diminishing Clearance Obstacle. Therefore, standard cone were used instead.

The Digital Roadeo Scoring system need a complete WiFi signal around the course to keep 23 Tablet computers connected to the Server. Here the main signal is on the roof of the circled van to the left. A WiFi signal extended is located at the other white circle. Between the two radio signals the 700' x 300' roadeo course was well covered.
